Greg became fascinated with astronomy during the Voyager spacecraft launches of the 1970s. That interest developed into a passion for educating the public through outreach and astrophotography.
Throughout the years, his personal appearances have included local astronomy clubs, regional star parties and national imaging conferences. Lectures have ranged from public overviews of planetary exploration to in-depth imaging workshops and hands-on equipment demonstrations.
TV, Print and Exhibitions
His images have been used in public, government and educational resources from NASA to National Geographic. Publications include hundreds of printed and online resources. His photographs have been featured in various science settings and museums in the United States and around the world.
Greg’s Professional collaborations include The National Science Foundation (NSF), NASA/JPL and the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO). He has also advised several companies on solar imaging and observing including Meade Instruments and Astro-Physics Inc.
A recipient of the Astronomy Outreach Award (the “Astro Oscar”), Greg has graciously accepted others including the Astronomical League’s first ever Webmaster of the Year, the Telly Award for contributions to Astrocast.tv and the Griffith Observatory’s Star Award.
Outside of astronomy, he spent 20 years on active duty with the United States Air Force and has traveled to over 30 countries worldwide. Notable aircraft maintenance assignments include F-16’s in Germany and Special Air Missions aircraft at Joint Base Andrews (Air Force One and Air Force Two missions).
In 2003, he was a guest at the last launch of the Space Shuttle Columbia (STS-107) at the Kennedy Space Center.
