The Pleiades (Greek) are also known as: The Seven Sisters (also Greek mythology), Subaru (Japan), Kartikeya god of war (Hindu), The Bunch of Grapes (Roman), White Tiger of the West (Chinese), Seven Maidens, Black Sky God, Orphan Boys, Lost Boys, The girl who married a dog (Native American).
While 6 or 7 of the stars are easily visible without a telescope, this backyard photo shows around 20. The blue glow is the effect of the stars passing through a rather dusty region of space. There’s more than 1000 stars in the cluster.
