A large prominences of hydrogen gas stands out against the blackness of space.
Pushed outward from the Sun by it’s magnetic field, hydrogen gas floats above the chromosphere and spans many Earth diameters. These structures called prominences, will either float for days or suddenly collapse back onto the solar disk.
